OTHER WORLDLY EARTH

Humans have always been compelled by maps and globes, depictions of places yet to be known. They are visual reminders that it is possible to reach these places where adventure awaits those who dare to explore what is beyond. Disco balls also have a similar allure as sparkling signage drawing bodies to places that promise music, light, and the inescapable urge to dance.

The disco globe is my interdisciplinary passion project.

In 2023, I began collecting damaged globes and using them to create disco Earths. Using my knowledge of scale, my interpretations of the planet's surface are geographically referenced with Google Earth's most recent satellite imagery. The old globe is covered in thousands of colored mirrored tiles to represent oceans, deserts, and vegetation. What started as a post graduation art project has turned into a series of pieces made for friends and community members who love the planet and the joy that comes from shiny things.

My very first disco globe, made from a 1960’s Ohio Art Co. globe and mirrored tiles.
